Barbados

The 12c Flying Fish has an almost antique air, like an old engraving, and first came out in 1950, with the head of King George VI. The same design was then used in 1953 for Queen Elizabeth II. It's a tough but delicately drawn stamp, one of my favourites.

The Seahorse, Sea urchin, Angel fish and Queen conch are from a 1965 Marine Life set characterised by dark colours, some with very bold brighter contrasts, such as the Angel fish.

The 1977 5c 'Natural Beauty of Barbados' is a larger than average stamp, and shows a shoal of unidentified fish. If anyone recognises them, please let me know!

The Bristle worm and Spotted trunk fish were issued in 1985. I have lower values of this set in mint, and the higher values used.

1953 Mixed theme set

12c Four-winged flying fish £0.05

1965 Marine Life (3c Sea horse and 4c Sea urchin, 15c Angel fish and $1 Queen conch are shown here)

3c Seahorse with 'n', hippocanpus £0.05
3c Seahorse with 'm', hippocampus £0.25
4c Sea urchin £0.05
12c Porcupine fish £0.05
25c Brain coral £0.10

Both versions of the 3c Sea horse cost less than a tenth of the 2010 SG SotW catalogue value, because I have so many of them.

The following are available mint

15c Angel fish £1.15
35c Brittle star £0.50
50c Flying fish £0.65
$1 Queen conch £1.25
$2 Fiddler crab £0.85

Canada

Endangered wildlife, 1979 and 1980

Canada issued different endangered wildlife sets in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and the two stamps shown here come from different series. The Bowhead Whale came out in 1979 and is from the 3rd series. It costs £0.30. (You can find more whales in Wild Animals and Reptiles.)

The 17c Canadian Whitefish stamp came out in 1980, and is from the 4th series. It's a very attractive design, with subtle colours, and a pose that shows the fish's grace and beauty. The whitefish stamp costs £0.05

1997 Ocean Fishes (not shown here)

This set, all with a face value of 45c, shows a Great white shark, Pacific halibut, Common sturgeon and Blue-finned tuna. They cost £1.25 for the set of four stamps.

Mauritius

Stamps from Mauritius are a delight, they are well designed, and the postmarks are generally CDS (in contrast to, say Canada, the US and Isle of Man, eek!). The design for these marine life stamps first came out in 1969. Prices are for fine used. The lower face values are illustrated opposite. Some of the stamps from this set with lower face values, ie the 2c, 3c and 4c, have quite high catalogue values, see below.

1969 Marine Life

2c Black-spotted Emperor £0.25
3c Red Reef Crab £0.35
4c Episcopal Mitre £0.45
5c Black-saddled Pufferfish, or bourse, £0.05
10c Starfish £0.05
15c Sea Urchin £0.05
20c Fiddler Crab £0.10
25c Spiny shrimp £1.10
35c Paper nautilus £0.10
50c Spider conches £0.05
60c Blue marlin 0.05
75c Conus Clytospira £0.50
R1 Dolphin (fish) £0.05

The 2c, 3c and 4c are priced at a tenth or less of their catalogue value in the SG 2010 Stamps of the World. If you look at a more detailed catalogue you will find that some with the right watermarks have even higher catalogue values. I will look out for watermarks if you are interested, and you can get yourself a real bargain. These three face values are on offer because I have them coming out of my ears, including those with the high value watermarks.

1989 Protection of the Environment

The 15c and 20c stamps from this set have the same design, and photo of an Underwater View, with a border. The difference is in the face value, and the 15c has a pink border, while the 20c, which is shown here, has a blue-green border. Each face valuie costs £0.30.

2000 Fish (the 8c and 15c from this set are shown here)

50c Scarus ghobban £0.05
1r Cephalopholis £0.05

Would you like to buy some stamps?

Ordering stamps:

To order stamps, just email me alisonlever @ yahoo.co.uk and let me know what you want. I'll answer as soon as possible. This may not be the same day, but you do get personal service, and I am happy to search for stamps on just about any theme. There are a lot more stamps in stock than is possible to show here, so it's worth asking about your particular interest.

Please allow £0.95 (95p) if you come from anywhere in Europe, and £1.50 if orders are to be sent elsewhere. The postage charge is the same however many stamps you buy. This means that it's cheaper to buy more than one stamp, because the cost of packaging and postage is less per stamp. This reflects the time spent ensuring that the stamps are packed so that they arrive to you safely - it takes about the same time for one stamp as for larger orders.

Your stamps will be sent as soon as I receive payment. You can return the stamps and obtain a refund if they are not what you expected. Paypal is preferred, though other forms of payment can be negotiated. Euros are welcome as well as pound sterling.
