Dogs by breed A - F, Dogs by breed G - O, Dogs by Breed P - R

The stamps on this page are mostly CTO sets, which means that they were made especially for collectors. An advantage of CTO stamps is that they tend to have lighter and neater postmarks than ordinary stamps. They also tend to be very large, colourful stamps.

Special offer: ten stamps of your favourite breed for £5.00, or an average of £0.50 each if I have less than ten. I am happy to make up a customised, personal pack for you so that you can avoid duplicating stamps that you already have.

Saint Bernard

Saint Bernards are the heaviest of dog breeds, and have become popular as pets in the US, where their role is very different from their traditional role as dogs that rescue people from snowy mountains. These two stamps showing St Bernards are both available mint, and cost £0.55 each. I have more Saint Bernard stamps, please ask.

Samoyed

Samoyeds were originally bred to get along with people, as well as for work, pulling cargo and humans through the snow. They have become popular as pets, partly because of their striking looks, and cuddly appearance. Samoyeds may look cuddly, but these are spitz dogs, so they can be stubborn, and do need ground rules set out right from the start. Shown here, a Samoyed stamp from Laos, mint, at £0.55, and from Niger, available CTO at £0.50. More Samoyed stamps available, please ask.

Schnauzers are dogs with character, whether they are small, standard or giant. There are many wonderful Schnauzers on stamps,  such as this Schnauzer shown in a head study from Afghanistan, at £0.55.

The large Cambodian minisheet is mint, and costs £1.25, while the East German Schnauzer is quite small, and is available CTO at £0.45. Also shown, a head study of a Schnauzer from Guernsey, fine used, at £0.50 and a Schnauzer from Tanzania at £0.55.

The last stamp is from East Timor, which brought out a wonderful dog set which including all three types of Schnauzer. Just one of the three is shown here. I have the other two, price £0.50 each, or £1.35 for the three. More Schnauzers on stamps available, please ask.

Shetland Sheepdog

The first Shetland sheepdog stamp shown here is from Afghanistan, and is available mint at  £0.65. The Ajman stamp showing a Sheltie pup is CTO, as is the Shetland sheepdog head study from Tchad. Both cost £0.55 each.

Shetland sheepdogs are very like small versions of Rough Collies, except they tend to be a little more exciteable and (to put it politely) talkative. They are, however, very trainable, so can be trained to sit and wait for your answer, once they have told you something. Shetland sheepdog lovers may also like to look at the Rough Collie in Dogs P-R. I also have more Shetland sheepdog stamps, please ask.

Shih Tzu

Shih Tzu are small dogs with big personalities, sometimes confused with Lhasa Apso, which they resemble in some ways. Shih Tzu tend to have sweeter natures, and are less of a challenge when they are groomed, so professional groomers tell me. Shih Tzu can handle living in an apartment so long as they are taken out for walks often enough. Country-living Shih Tzu do tend to need either a haircut, or a lot of grooming, because otherwise their long coats retain mud, bramble twigs, and other country treasures.

Shown here is a Shih Tzu stamp from Cambodia, available mint at £0.65 and Gibraltar, also available mint at £0.55. The third stamp is a classic CTO offering from Sharjah, and also costs £0.55. More Shi Tzu stamps available, please ask.

Siberian Husky

Huskies are one of the most romantic breeds, and for this reason are sometimes taken on as pets by people who admire their good looks and wild grace. But ... even the most devoted owners who exercise their dogs regularly report that teaching recall can be a challenge. And that bored huskies can trash a room, or become skilled escape artists, so they are a serious commitment and are best suited for the work they were designed to do. Here are some stamps showing working huskies, or dogs that are probably huskies! I have more Sibe stamps, please ask.

First is a high value mint stamp from Australian Antarctic Territory, issued in 1959, called Dogteam and Iceberg. This costs £0.85. Then comes a Cambodian Siberian Husky, issued in 1998, at £0.65 mint and £0.45 CTO. The first Canadian stamp is from a series celebrating Inuit culture, and was issued in 1978. It is called Dogteam and Dogsled, and shows an ivory sculture by Abraham Kingmeatook. It costs £0.45. The second Canadian husky stamp is from the 1995 Arctic set, and costs £0.55.

The stamp from Greenland shows Dogs and Fisherman - the dogs are particularly well drawn. This stamp was issued in 1991, and costs £0.85.

The stamps from Guine Bissau (2001) and Guinee (1997) cost £0.55 each. I have to admit that the Guinee husky head looks more like the head of a racoon, but the standing Siberian husky below is well drawn. The 1995 Niger Husky pup also costs £0.55. Some smart aleck has added a Concorde and a scout emblem, to attract collectors of those themes, but this is one of the more enchanting depictions of a Husky puppy.

The 2002 Slovakian stamp shows the European Dogsled championship, and costs £0.45. The 2002 East Timor Eskimo dog also costs £0.45

The New Zealand first day minisheet is special, not so much for the stamps as for the dog team below the aircraft. It has been carefully stamped by the Philatelic Bureau, and costs £2.25.

Shown here is an English Springer from Mongolia, available mint at £0.60, a Tanzanian English Springer, available CTO at £0.55, and an English Springer from East Timor, at £0.50,

The next stamp shown is part of a GB 1979 set featuring a Setter, West Highland White, Welsh Springer Spaniel and an Old English Sheepdog. It has stood the test of time as one of the most attractive dog sets around. Here it's available as a mint stamp at £0.45, a fine used stamp at £0.30, and on a first day cover showing all four breeds, at £1.25 for the cover. The address is neatly written on the cover in pencil.

Micronesia brought out a set with a design echoing the GB 1979 set, with the same breeds in similar postures.  The Welsh Springer shown here is available mint at £0.55. The last stamp shown is a CTO Welsh Springer Spaniel from East Timor, which costs £0.50. More Springer Spaniels available, both English and Welsh, please ask.

Wild Canids

Here is a small collection of wild canids, an Australian Dingo, an Ethiopian Simeon fox, two Polish Wolves, a Nicaraguan Coyote, and a Red fox from the US.

I have different versions of the Ethiopian stamp, with different coloured borders and different face values, and the same fox design. The one you get will have the fox, but not necessarily the same colour border and face value. Price: £0.55 for the six stamps.

Next comes a block of four wolves from the 1988 Canada Mammals set. This costs £0.85 for the block, and £0.25 for a single wolf stamp, both fine used.

The Congo 2007 Canidae minisheet is CTO and costs £0.55.

Mongolia issued these delightful Foxes in 1987. They cost £0.75 for a mint set of four.

Russia's 1988 Zoo Relief Fund set shows a wolf and a fox, plus a bear, boar and lynx. This costs £0.85 for a mint block of five stamps plus the zoo emblem of a zebra in the middle of the top row.

More stamps showing dogs, wolves and other wild canids available, please ask.

Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkies are feisty little terriers, often able to discipline dogs several times their size. They are eminently trainable, and trained Yorkies are a joy, as well as being safer to walk. The first Yorkie shown here is from Bulgaria, and costs £0.55. The second is a large, vintage stamp from Sharjah, and also costs £0.55. The third Yorkshire terrier stamp, from Timor, costs £0.45. More Yorkshire terriers available, please ask.

Would you like to buy some stamps?

Ordering stamps:

To order stamps, just email me and let me know what you want. I'll answer as soon as possible. This may not be the same day, but you do get personal service, and I am happy to search for stamps on just about any theme. There are a lot more stamps in stock than is possible to show here, so it's worth asking about your particular interest.

Please allow £0.95 (95p) if you come from anywhere in Europe, and £1.50 if orders are to be sent elsewhere. The postage charge is the same however many stamps you buy. This means that it's cheaper to buy more than one stamp, because the cost of packaging and postage is less per stamp. This reflects the time spent ensuring that the stamps are packed so that they arrive to you safely - it takes about the same time for one stamp as for larger orders.

Your stamps will be sent as soon as I receive payment. You can return the stamps and obtain a refund if they are not what you expected. Paypal is preferred, though other forms of payment can be negotiated. Euros are welcome as well as pound sterling.
